From education to entertainment, Toronto Chess Club is here to take chess to the next level.
Who Are We?
Founded in 2019, Toronto Chess Club was born from a simple but powerful idea: Canada needed a world-class chess education program to develop future champions. At the time, Toronto’s chess scene was just beginning to stir, and we saw an opportunity to help it thrive.
Our founder, NA Peter Lambert, has had a passion for chess all his life, and has coached hundreds of students all across the GTA and abroad. His dedication to fostering a love of chess in others has taken him to remote villages in rural B.C. and connected him to every chess education center and club in the Toronto area. Now, his vision of elevating Canadian chess to a world-class level has continued to expand, running dozens of casual and competitive tournaments, multiple private education programs and more.
In recent years, Peter has partnered with NA Jonathan Jocham to help expand TCC’s offerings and further its mission. Since then TCC has added more instructors and other collaborators, with new additions to the TCC team on the horizon. The future is bright for TCC, and we hope that you will become a part of our story too!
Enhancing Chess Education
Our mission is to foster a vibrant and inclusive community of chess players in Toronto by providing exceptional opportunities for gameplay, learning, and socializing. We aim to inspire and entertain our members through the power of the game, reflecting the rich history and enduring appeal of chess as one of the world's most beloved pastimes. Our dedication to creativity and excellence will ensure that we make our mark as one of the premier chess organizations in Canada.
The Toronto Chess Club is dedicated to expanding and enhancing chess education in the GTA and beyond, by bringing the highest quality curriculum-based education programs to hundreds of students, both in group classes and individual instruction, in person and online, locally and internationally. We are thrilled to have recently partnered with the Lorvale Academy to bring the world-renowned Chess Steps curriculum to classes in both their Markham and Oakville campuses, in addition to our hundreds of current and past students. Our instructors also teach in coordination with a variety of other chess institutions in the GTA, such as CIC, CCYC and more.
We have also begun expanding to other parts of Canada to teach both remote classes and week-long chess camps, partnering with the Gitga’at First Nation in Hartley Bay, BC for the past several years. We aim to expand this program to other remote areas over time, bringing high quality chess education to areas where it otherwise not available.
We can’t wait to continue to expand our chess education programs and help to bring a new generation of top players to the global chess scene!
Community and Competition
TCC is also committed to expanding the opportunities available for competitive play and community building for chess players of all ages. We do this through two primary avenues: weekly casual Pub Chess events and other special event tournaments.
We are currently partnered with Toronto Pub Chess to offer Pub Chess events every Tuesday night from 8-11PM at Left Field Brewery in Liberty Village, which has been a blast every week since it began! Come by if you live in the GTA to make some friends and play some great blitz games.
We are also excited to have worked with the Detroit Chess Club last year to run the first annual Great Lakes Youth Chess Cup! It was a fantastic event that featured fantastic chess from our local and Detroit-based competitors, with some rare opportunities for Canada-US youth competition and community-building as well as some beautiful trophies won by both sides. We can’t wait to continue this exciting event in years to come and bring out competitors from other cities in the Great Lakes region as well!
There are other exciting special events in the works right now! More information will be posted soon, both here and on our social media pages.
